Squarespace Case Study
Bringing a Flat Squarespace Site to Life, in Pure Vanilla JavaScript
StudioVerso already had a Squarespace site. What they didn't have was a developer who could push it further. I onboarded as their dev and built an entire instructors page with live search and filtering, a custom Spotify widget, a tailored carousel, and interactive elements across the site, every line of it in dependency-free vanilla JavaScript.

The Challenge
For a creative studio, the website is the pitch. StudioVerso's existing Squarespace site was on-brand but flat: static pages that didn't move, respond, or showcase their work the way a studio selling creativity needs to. Prospective clients judge design taste by the first screen they see.
The studio wanted to stay on Squarespace, and for good reason. No servers to maintain, no security patches, and an editor anyone on the team could use. What they needed was a developer who could layer real interactivity on top without breaking any of that, and without dragging in heavy plugins or page-speed-killing libraries.
The Solution
A full instructors page with search and filtering
Squarespace has nothing like this natively. I built a complete instructors directory from scratch: visitors search by name and filter instructors in real time, all rendered instantly without page reloads. It behaves like a custom web app, yet it lives inside a standard Squarespace page.
A custom Spotify widget
Squarespace has no native way to showcase audio the way StudioVerso needed. I built a custom Spotify widget from scratch that pulls their tracks into the site and presents them as part of the brand experience, not as a pasted-in embed.
A carousel built for their content
Instead of forcing a generic slider plugin onto the site, I wrote a custom carousel tailored to StudioVerso's layouts: smooth, responsive, and designed around how their work should be browsed.
Interactive elements across the site
Hover states, motion, and interactive touches layered onto existing pages turned a static presentation into something that responds to the visitor. For a studio selling creativity, the site itself became a demo of it.
Everything in vanilla JavaScript
No jQuery, no slider libraries, no framework payloads. Every feature is hand-written vanilla JavaScript injected cleanly into Squarespace: nothing to update, no plugin conflicts, and no third-party bloat slowing the site down.
The Results
- A flat brochure site transformed into an interactive brand experience
- An instructors page with live search and filtering, functionality Squarespace doesn't offer out of the box
- A custom Spotify widget and carousel that no off-the-shelf plugin could deliver
- Zero third-party libraries: lightweight vanilla JavaScript with nothing to maintain or license
- The team still edits everything through the normal Squarespace editor, no developer needed day to day
Already on Squarespace but Feeling Boxed In?
You don't need a rebuild. My custom Squarespace development services add the widgets, interactions, and integrations your current site is missing, in clean vanilla JavaScript with nothing extra to maintain.
